SportsRadio WEEI has had the fortunate opportunity to build a very successful business in the New England Region. One thing that we have never forgotten is how important it is for businesses to give back to the communities in which they operate. This has been a guiding principle of SportsRadio WEEI since our inception in September 1991 that has created a 16-YEAR TRACK RECORD OF SUPPORTING LOCAL CHARITIES.
We’re just doing what we think is right.
From on-air and on-line auctions, to features on Red Sox Baseball on Radio, to major station events, to public service announcements we figure it is best to find a way to give back to the New England Community.
- Over $10,000,000 Raised for Local Charities since 2001.
- Jimmy Fund Radiothon.
- Curt’s Pitch for ALS.
- Whiney Awards.
- Junior Jocks for Good Sports.
- Make-A-Difference Day.
- Other Charity Efforts.
Although our community efforts started back in 1991, they exploded after the new millennium and we have raised OVER $10,000,0000 for LOCAL and REGIONAL CHARITIES SINCE 2001.
JIMMY FUND
One of our signature annual events is the SPORTSRADIO WEEI JIMMY FUND RADIOTHON that supports the DANA FARBER CANCER INSTITUTE that cares for and researches childhood cancer. What started in 2002 as an 18 hour telethon raising over $325,000 has turned into a major event incorporating WEEI, NESN, The Boston Red Sox and millions of Red Sox Fans attending the Sox Game at Fenway Park, listening to the Sox Game on Red Sox Baseball on Radio or watching the Sox Game on NESN. The 5th Annual Jimmy Fund Radiothon raised a record $2.9 million in a single day in 2006.
In addition, SportsRadio WEEI has partnered with many Red Sox Baseball on Radio Sponsors like Hyundai and AZEK Trimboards to create programs such as Hyundai’s “STRIKE OUT CANCER CLUB” and AZEK’s “BEEN CAUGHT LOOKING” donation program for each strike out issued by a Red Sox Pitcher or each time a Red Sox Pitcher strikes a batter out “looking at the pitch”, respectively. These programs create additional donations for THE JIMMY FUND.
ALS RESEARCH
One of the most charitable players in all of Major League Baseball is Curt Schilling. Curt and SportsRadio WEEI connected in 2005 to create the “CURT SCHILLING RED SOX INSIDERS REPORT” feature during the Dennis and Callahan Radio Show. Teaming up together, SportsRadio WEEI and Curt have raised over $100,000 per year since 2005 for “CURT’S PITCH for ALS” which supports research for ALS / Lou Gehrig’s Disease and afflicted patients.
WHINEY AWARDS
SportsRadio WEEI’s Annual WHINEY AWARDS salute the best callers to SportsRadio WEEI’s “Big Show” and bring together listeners from all walks of life. An event that started as 200 people at a restaurant has grown to over 3,500 attendees annually and has supported a variety of local charities. From the BOSTON BRUINS FOUNDATION, to the BOSTON CELTICS FOUNDATION, to the AMERICAN HEART ASSOCIATION, to the CAM NEELY HOUSE, to CURT’S PITCH for ALS, the Whiney Awards have raised over $100,000 for these various charities since the event’s creation five years ago in 2003.
JUNIOR JOCKS for GOOD SPORTS
Today’s youth have a lot of options for spending their free time. Unfortunately, many of these options do not involve healthy exercise and an opportunity to stay out of trouble. Over the years we have seen the funding for youth sports cut back on the city, state and regional levels. The most expensive part of youth sports is the equipment. In order to do our part in keeping the youth sports movement going, SportsRadio WEEI has partnered with “GOOD SPORTS”, an organization dedicated to providing sporting equipment to organized youth sports organizations throughout the New England region. For every dollar GOOD SPORTS raises, they are allowed to purchase two dollars worth of sports equipment from various equipment manufacturers. Our annual “JUNIOR JOCKS” on-air donation drive in December has raised over $150,000 for the purchase and distribution of sports equipment for youth sports organizations throughout New England over the past four years.
MAKE-A-DIFFERENCE DAY
SportsRadio WEEI has made a commitment to give back to our community. The same goes for Entercom Communications, our parent company, whose mission is to give back in all of their communities. MAKE-A-DIFFERENCE DAY is a company-wide initiative that provides community-based charitable work for a variety of humanitarian causes. Each year, SportsRadio WEEI and Entercom Boston employees spend a full day volunteering at the ST. FRANCIS HOUSE, AIDS ACTION COMMITTEE, FAMILY SERVICES OF GREATER BOSTON, GREATER BOSTON FOOD BANK and CHARLES RIVER CONSERVANCY and other charitable endeavors.
Although the organizations above represent some of our most recognized charity efforts, we partner with many other New England based charitable organizations including the MAKE-A-WISH FOUNDATION, the GENESIS FUND, the JOEY FUND for CYSTIC FIBROSIS and the CYSTIC FIBROSIS FOUNDATION, the BOYS and GIRLS CLUB, and many others.
So why is this of value to your business?
They say “great corporate citizenship is at the heart of all great communities”. At SportsRadio WEEI we pride ourselves on trying to make New England a greater community and create a better life for those less fortunate. We give back because of our success and the way the community has supported our business. It’s simply the right thing to do. Your investment in SportsRadio WEEI is an investment in a great community partner that creates a strong emotional connection between the radio station, our listeners and our advertisers.
Bottom line: Listeners support those who support their community and we’ll help you make the connection between our community efforts, our listeners and your advertising sponsorship which will in turn create a greater RETURN ON INVESTMENT for your advertising dollar.
